Ostenso vs. Melatonin Gummies

Ostenso vs. Melatonin Gummies

The short version: gummies have to survive your stomach acid before they work. Strips don't.

Onset time

Gummies dissolve in your stomach (15–30 min), pass through your intestines, and get partially metabolized by your liver before reaching your bloodstream. Typical onset: 45–60 minutes.

Strips dissolve on your tongue in 30 seconds. The actives are absorbed through the oral mucosa directly into systemic circulation, bypassing digestion entirely. Typical onset: 10–25 minutes.

Dose accuracy

A 2023 JAMA study tested 25 commercial melatonin gummies and found 22 (88%) contained between 74% and 347% of their labeled melatonin amount. Film-cast strips have tighter manufacturing tolerances than gummy molds.

Ingredients

Most melatonin gummies are melatonin-only or melatonin-dominant, plus 2–6 g of sugar and gelatin. Ostenso strips contain five botanicals (valerian, lavender, chamomile, hibiscus, and a precise dose of melatonin) and no sugar, no gelatin, no synthetic dyes.

Middle-of-night use

You can't take a gummy at 3am without chewing, which wakes you up. You can't take a capsule without water, which means getting out of bed. You can place a strip on your tongue while lying down in the dark — and it works fast enough to salvage the rest of the night.
